When you owe someone an apology, choosing a gift can feel easier than choosing the words.
You can decide on flowers. Imagine how the gift will look. Spend time thinking about the gesture while the sentence you need to say remains unfinished.
Should I send a gift with an apology?
Send a gift only when the contact and the gesture would be welcome. Choose something modest that the person enjoys, such as flowers, and include a clear apology in your own words. Avoid a public presentation that asks them to respond in front of other people. If they have asked for space or no contact, do not use a gift to get around it. In that situation, respecting their request is the considerate choice.
Begin with that sentence.
What happened? What do you take responsibility for? What do you understand about the way it affected the other person? You do not need a perfect paragraph, but the apology should be clear enough that they are not left to work out what you mean.
If you said something hurtful, name it. If you let them down, acknowledge that without immediately explaining why they should see it differently. Give the person room to feel what they feel.
A small gift may be a kind accompaniment when it would be welcome. Flowers they enjoy, something familiar, a note they can read privately. Keep the gesture comfortable for them, rather than turning it into something they have to respond to in front of other people.
If they have asked for space, respect it. Sending a gift through another person does not make that request disappear.
There is also no reaction a gift can reasonably demand. They may need time. They may want a conversation. What changes afterwards will matter beyond the moment of opening something.

Write what you mean, keep the promise honest and let the other person respond in their own time.
